Pedestrian hurt in suspected drunk driving crash in Jersey City

It is extremely important for motorists to not get behind the wheel when drunk. When drivers engage in drunk driving, they can be putting the safety of many people at risk. One type of individual whose safety can be put at risk when motorists drive drunk are pedestrians, as drunk driving can lead to car vs. pedestrian accidents.

Recently, a car vs. pedestrian accident occurred in Jersey City in which drunk driving is alleged.

The accident happened last Saturday. Early that morning, a 24-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of Manhattan Avenue and Tonnelle Avenue. The woman was then hit by a motor vehicle. According to authorities, the motor vehicle left the scene after the accident.

Shortly after the crash, police arrested a 20-year-old man who they allege was the driver of the above-mentioned vehicle. In addition to alleging that he struck the pedestrian, police have accused him of having been drunk at the time of the accident. The man is facing charges of assault by auto, DWI, minors possessing alcoholic beverage, knowingly leaving the scene of an accident and endangering an injured victim.

The 24-year-old woman was hurt in the crash. She was transported to a hospital after it occurred.

As this incident underscores, car vs. pedestrian accidents can be very harmful to pedestrians. There are a wide variety of different types of injuries pedestrians can suffer in such accidents. Some examples include head injuries, back injuries and leg injuries.

If a pedestrian is hurt in a car vs. pedestrian accident and the accident was caused by driver negligence/recklessness, there are options available to the pedestrian for seeking relief for the harms he or she has suffered. Thus, if a person has suffered injuries in a car vs. pedestrian accident, he or she may wish to consider talking to an experienced personal injury attorney.
