Worker struck by a vehicle on New Jersey Turnpike dies

This tragic accident in New Jersey resulted in the death of a highway maintenance worker. If you're a highway worker, you may know that in these cases, your family has a right to seek damages for their loss. In tragedies like this one, money isn't usually the first thing on families' minds, but it can help with medical costs and funeral bills in this time of need.

This updated report from July 10 states that the victim of the fatal accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in Kearny was a 32-year-old man. The man killed had reportedly been employed with the state since March 2001. The Garfield man was completing routine work late one morning when he parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the turnpike's northbound western spur to remove tire debris from the highway.

Then, he was struck by a vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet box truck, according to the New Jersey state trooper being interviewed. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at around 11:03 a.m., about 13 minutes after the accident was reported. The New Jersey State Police have not yet filed any charges. No one else was hurt in the accident.

This kind of crash could be avoided. Negligence, distractions and speeding may be a cause of these kinds of incidents, so it's important for investigators to determine who might be at fault. No criminal citations have to be issued for the injured parties or survivors of the deceased to seek compensation for injuries and other losses such as wages. Medical bills and final expenses may also be recoverable.
