Claim compensation for negligence on a premises in New Jersey

Most of the time, when you're on someone else's property, you are protected against injuries. If the owner of that property has been negligent in maintaining the land around the house, the stairs running up to a business, or even a parking lot filled with potholes, you could be injured and have a right to compensation for those injuries.

Whether the property is a business property or residential home makes little difference; your rights as a victim stay the same. As long as you were allowed to be on the property, and in some cases even when you may not have been, you can make a premises liability claim against the owner.

For instance, imagine you were driving your car and hit a pothole that was left on the owner's parking lot. This hole causes your vehicle's wheel to move out of alignment and you crash into a parked vehicle. If you were injured in the crash and the pothole can be linked to the crash as a cause, then it's fair to say that the owner was negligent and should have filled the hole to prevent injuries.

Other situations can result in a claim, too. If you're entering a grocery store in winter and slip and fall on a patch of ice, you could make a claim then, too. Typically, businesses are responsible for keeping icy areas cleared with salt and defrosting chemicals, so patrons don't get hurt. Our website has more information on these kinds of incidents and what you can do if you've been hurt; you may be due money for your injuries.
