What pedestrians can do following a car accident

As someone who has been hurt in a pedestrian accident, it's important that you know the steps to take to make a claim for your injuries. The way you approach this situation can be the difference between getting a settlement that's just okay versus one that's going to cover all your needs in the future.

To start with, you need to collect all the information you can about the accident. Keep all your medical records from when you go to the hospital, too, as this is important information that will give the insurance company an idea of how much compensation you require now and in the future.

You will want to make sure to keep information on the witnesses who saw your accident. These people can give testimonies on your behalf, so you can verify your story to the court or insurance company you're working with.

If you're at fault for the accident in some way, then it's possible that you could be liable for some of the costs you face. However, you can still make a cost recovery for a portion of the accident. Here's an example. If you were walking across a road in a crosswalk but the walk signal was red, then you were in danger of being hit. When a car has a green light and doesn't see you, the collision may well be a shared responsibility. At that point, you may only be able to collect half the recovery that you would have initially expected, since you were partially to blame for the collision.

Every accident is different, which is why your attorney will ask for as much information as possible. With the right claim put together, you have the best chance of a good recovery for your costs.
