1 killed, 1 severely injured in crash on Route 61

When you're driving, you have a responsibility to others. You should stay in your lane, obey the speed limit and traffic laws and do your part to prevent accidents when you can. When a person decides to do something illegal, like crossing a concrete barrier to avoiding having to exit the highway at the next exit, then others can be put at risk and have a right to a lawsuit if they're injured. That's what happened in this case, which left one person dead and another fighting for her life.

A 53-year-old man was killed in an accident on Route 61 near Interstate 78, a report from Berks Regional News announced. He was traveling with a 52-year-old woman, who was seriously injured in the crash. At the time of the last report, she was in serious condition but expected to survive.

The Sept. 12 news indicated that the accident took place when a minivan driver, an 82-year-old woman from New Jersey, decided to make a U-turn over the concrete median of the highway. When she attempted to enter the northbound highway, she pulled out in front of the motorcyclist, causing him to hit the rear of the minivan. It's not clear why she decided to cross the median instead of waiting until the next exit.

If a U-turn interferes with traffic or takes place where a U-turn is not allowed (it will be marked with a sign), then the turn itself, even if normally legal, will result in a citation. Police in this case are appealing for the public's help while they investigate to see if the U-turn was the cause of this horrible crash.
