NJ Transit Train Crash In Hoboken: What Are Your Rights?

One person was killed and 108 people were injured earlier today when a New Jersey Transit train ran through its stop at the station in Hoboken, causing major damage to the station and the train.

Survivors on the train and in the station described a sudden crash that caught almost everyone by surprise. Many witnesses said that the train did not slow down at all before the accident. The driver was seriously injured, but is cooperating with law enforcement. There are no details on whether he was impaired. A similar accident occurred at the station five years ago.

Crash Comes After New Law Passed To Protect Passengers

Many readers will remember that Gov. Christie signed a law in August preventing anyone who had lost their driving privileges due to a DUI or related charge to operate a NJ Transit train. While the details are not yet out on what caused the crash, this is an important piece of information that readers and victims will want to know.

Were You Hurt? Here's What You Should Do

If you were injured in this accident, it is important that you seek medical attention. If your doctor gives you instructions for medication or other treatment, follow them. Injuries to your back, neck or head may become more serious over time if undiagnosed or untreated.

The second thing you can do is talk with an experienced personal injury attorney. Because NJ Transit is a public agency, filing a claim will likely be a much more complicated process than an accident involving two private citizens. It will likely take a great deal of patience. You should work with attorneys who have experience seeking compensation from government agencies. Making the right decision when hiring an attorney could mean the difference in whether you recover the compensation you deserve for your injuries.
