Currently, New Jersey's legislature is considering a bill that is aimed at making the process of seeking workers' compensation for certain medical conditions a little easier for one group of employees: first responders.
]]> Under the bill, in cases involving workers' compensation claims made by first responders regarding certain medical conditions (including certain cancers), there would be a legal presumption that the first responder acquired the condition through their work. Thus, the burden of proof for causation in such workers' compensation cases would be moved from first responders to their employers.Proponents of the bill argue that this change would make it easier for first responders to receive the relief they deserve when they acquire such conditions as part of their work. Opponents of the bill have expressed concerns about what the bill would ultimately cost taxpayers.
The bill went before the New Jersey Senate and was passed. The bill will now go before the New Jersey Assembly. One wonders what will ultimately happen with this bill.

According to police, in addition to a 30-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, the 1995 Dodge Neon invovled in the accident had eight children from ages 17 to 1. The Neon crashed into a fence.
]]> The woman and three of the children were still in the hospital with their conditions described as "critical." The other five kids have already been released from the hospital, while the man's condition is stable.The accident happend at 1:30 a.m. Why a car with eight young children was out that late at night is not known. Police have also not said who was driving the car, and no charges have been filed yet. It also has not been disclosed what the children's relationship with the adults was.
Anyone who knows anything about cars knows how difficult it would be to fit 10 people into a Neon safely. Most Neon's seat four or five people. It would be next to impossible to put 10 people in the car and have them all be properly restrained.
Following the rules of the road does not just mean following traffic laws. It means making sure you aren't dangerously packing your car full of people. Drivers need to show more responsibility, especially when small children are involved.
