Accidents on roadways across the state of New Jersey are increasing at an alarming rate. A recent car accident in Mahwah left a 12-year-old boy in critical condition after a serious accident involving two vehicles. According to authorities, the boy had to be airlifted to a local medical center after he was ejected from a vehicle.

Reports say the accident happened during the afternoon hours on Route 287. A Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north in the left lane and struck a Lincoln SUV from behind, accident reports say. The impact caused the SUV to hit a guardrail and the young boy was ejected from the back seat of the vehicle, according to New Jersey State Police.

A passenger in the Malibu reported minor injuries, but both drivers were uninjured. Police say the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was arrested for driving while intoxicated. The woman was also charged with assault by auto, causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

These are very serious charges and this driver could be facing hefty fines and some serious jail time. Roads across New Jersey are dangerous enough, but when alcohol is involved the odds for a serious accidents increase dramatically. Those that drive while intoxicated endanger the lives of all those around them. Families in New Jersey who have suffered injuries or the loss of a loved one due to negligence in a car accident should consult a knowledgeable attorney. A successful lawsuit could provide much-needed financial relief to ease the pain and suffering of this experience.
