17-year-old struck while crossing the street in New Jersey

Pedestrians have every right to cross the road or to walk through a parking lot as drivers have to be on the roads. However, sometimes, accidents happen because drivers aren't looking at where they're going or simply aren't paying attention. In New Jersey, there have been a number of pedestrian accidents in 2013 and 2014, and now there has been another. According to news from Jan. 21, a teen was struck and injured by a man who may have swerved around a bus and its stop signal.

The pedestrian accident injury this teen suffered may make you wonder how he survived. According to the news, the 17-year-old teen was crossing the street around 6:30 a.m. to get on his school bus when the 80-year-old driver allegedly swerved around the bus and struck the man. The teen was carried around 50 feet by the vehicle before the 80-year-old stopped the car, according to reports.

Amazingly, the young man survived the brutal impact. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to reports, but he was believed to be stable. The news reports that he suffered from head injuries due to the accident.

Accidents like these can often be avoided by making sure drivers are not distracted and aren't rushing. Passing a bus with a stop sign signal and lights on is illegal on two-lane roads, and this accident shouldn't have happened. If you've been injured in an accident like this one or have a friend or family member who is recovering from injuries due to a pedestrian accident, it's important to look into your legal options.
