Work accident and death draw Amazon into the news in New Jersey

If you're hurt at work in New Jersey, it's likely that you expect proper medical treatment and a right to compensation via workers' compensation. These things are normally provided to workers who have to miss work and are injured while on the job. What may be interesting to you is the companies who have had multiple injuries or deaths at their facilities. Knowing this could help you avoid working for those who often break safety procedures or have more dangerous work environments.

According to a story released on Feb. 7, a woman working for an Amazon-owned facility in California had to be hospitalized after a work accident. According to the story, the woman is the second person within a few days to be injured in a workplace accident; in fact, a few days prior, a worker in the New Jersey-based Amazon facility was killed in a work accident. The accident in California has been disclosed to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and a spokesman claimed it took place on Dec. 7.

According to the news, the worker was injured when her hand became entrapped by a roller on a conveyor belt. Typically, there are safety measures in place to prevent this kind of accident, like automatic stops on machines or ways to prevent a worker from getting too close to the moving parts of the machinery. Fortunately, the woman received treatment for skin damage but didn't have to lose her hand due to the accident.

Just three days before that accident took place, a 57-year-old man was crashed at work by equipment he was using in the New Jersey-based Amazon facility. The facility is run on behalf of Amazon by a company called Genco. The OSHA is allegedly still investigating that incident.
