Ambulance involved in multi-car wreck in New Jersey

Emergency responders rushing to calls have to rely on the awareness of other drivers on the roadway for their own safety. While emergency vehicles are rarely involved in traffic accidents, they do happen, as one ambulance company in New Jersey is having to deal with the consequences.

On May 19, an ambulance was responding to a call for a traffic accident that had occurred on Ridge Road in Lyndhurst. On the way to accident scene, an SUV struck the ambulance, which subsequently hit another car occupied by an elderly woman and her aide. The ambulance wound up on its side next to a parked car. No patients were in the ambulance at the time of the crash.

Both of the EMTs in the ambulance were transported to a hospital in Newark. The 90-year-old woman was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment, and her young aide was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center. Reports state that none of the injuries were life threatening.

The man who owned the parked car that the ambulance crashed into before coming to rest was not in the car during the accident. He was in a local business eating lunch at the time, although he might have found himself in jeopardy of being a car accident victim had he finished eating just a little bit sooner.

Local law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.

Although nobody died in this crash and the injuries were not serious, the innocent victims have the right to seek compensation through legal means once the at-fault party has been identified by the prosecutors and police. An attorney is best placed to assist car accident victims as they seek to get reimbursement for medical expenses and other compensation.
