What are some pedestrian accident statistics?

Data released by the U.S. Department of Transportation focusing on 2011 has been one of the most recent fully fleshed out records of pedestrian accidents in the United States. The data, which was released late in 2013, shows that 4,432 people were killed and around 69,000 people were injured in pedestrian accidents in 2011 alone. The statistics prove that on average, one person was killed every two hours in one of these accidents, while one person was injured very eight minutes in traffic crashes.

What is a pedestrian as defined by the U.S. government? Pedestrians are any people who walk on foot, run, jog, hike, sit or lay down and are then involved in a motor vehicle accident. These crashes in the report don't include those that took place on private property, like parking lots or driveways, so consider that when you look at the statistics.

What's a shocking thing to realize is that the 4,432 people killed in 2011 were actually an increase over 2010. Three percent more people were killed in 2011 than in the year before. However, despite the sudden rise, overall, there has been a 7 percent decrease since 2002. The statistics show that in total, there were 4,851 pedestrian fatalities in 2002 and in 2009, that number had dropped to 4,109.

New Jersey suffers from multiple pedestrian accidents each year. If you've been involved in one, you deserve the best care on the road to recovery. With the support of those familiar with your case, you can seek the compensation you deserve so that you can get the medical help you need.
