What do you do after a crash in New Jersey?

When you're in an accident in New Jersey, your first thought isn't going to be to ask for the other driver's information or even to worry about your car. You'll likely think about whether or not your passengers are okay and if you or the other driver have injuries to attend to. In some cases, you may not even be awake thanks to the impact.

Despite your condition, there are several things that need to happen following an accident. If injuries or damage of $500 or more has occurred, the accident needs to be reported. In most cases, simply calling the police or for an ambulance will help make sure everything is reported as necessary.

If you're in a position to do so, there are a few pieces of information you can collect that could make your personal injury case easier later. For instance, taking the other driver's insurance carrier number, his address, his phone number and his license plate number makes it easier to find him later when you want to make a claim for compensation. If you can remember to do so, write down the road conditions and weather conditions. If you have a camera, take a photo of the scene.

If there are witnesses, you may want to get their contact information as well, as you may be able to use witness statements to help your case later. If you're unable to get this information due to being hospitalized, you may be able to request it from the authorities, who should have taken witness names, statements and other information about the scene of the accident.
