Car accident injuries that you're most likely to suffer from

When you're in an accident, your life can be turned upside down in an instant. You may find yourself fighting off infections, living with a disability, or trying to manage pain you never had to live with before.

There are many kinds of car accident injuries that can be suffered. With over 5.6 million car accidents reported in the United States in 2012 alone, it's easy to follow trends and discover the most likely injuries that are suffered. Injuries will vary from person to person, but there are some common injuries that most people suffer from.

Head and back injuries are the first major group of injuries. It's not uncommon for a person in a head-on collision, for instance, to suffer from whiplash. This is because the seat belt holds the body back, but the head can snap forward and strain the neck and shoulders.

Traumatic brain injuries can also result in a car crash, as the body is thrown faster than the brain can adjust. This can lead to swelling and tears in the ligaments of the brain. Concussions can occur from hitting your head on the window, dashboard, or other items.

Neck and chest injuries are also common. Some people find that they have bruising left behind from where the seat belt was holding them, particularly in high-speed crashes. Others may find that the impact resulted in back injuries like strains or sprains. Generalized vocal cord paralysis is also common after a crash, since the vocal cords have pressure put on them from strain to the neck.
