What benefits can I receive for a workers' compensation claim?

As a worker in New Jersey, it's important to know what kinds of benefits you can receive if you are hurt or killed on the job. Workers' compensation is meant to kick in after an injury and cover several costs, from the cost of your medical care to the expenses you accrue because of being unable to work.

There are a few kinds of benefits that you may be able to receive after a workplace accident. Total temporary benefits, permanent partial benefits, and permanent total benefits are all possible. Medical benefits and death benefits are also provided.

Medical benefits are designed to help you get the reasonable and necessary medical treatments you need following an accident in New Jersey. Temporary total benefits are used for those who become disabled for a period of more than seven days. This benefit pays around 70 percent of your average weekly wage.

Permanent partial benefits are given to a person when an illness or injury results in a permanent impairment, like blindness, paralysis, hearing loss, or other issues. These benefits are paid each week and are received after temporary benefits are expired. Permanent total benefits are paid for 450 weeks, and they are only given when a person is disabled so much that he or she can't return to any kind of gainful employment.

Finally, if you are killed in a workplace accident, then your dependents can seek compensation through death benefits. Funeral expenses are normally covered up to $3,500, and the weekly benefits paid will be 70 percent of the wage you would have earned if you were alive.
