Motorcyclist seriously hurt in crash in Toms River

Riding a motorcycle can be dangerous, because the motorcycle can be harder to see, and drivers can miscalculate how fast they're traveling. One of the most common causes of accidents is a driver turning left in front of a motorcyclist. When a driver makes that mistake, it's nearly impossible for a motorcyclist to avoid a collision. Even if the motorcyclist can turn or slide, it's likely that he or she will collide with the vehicle and be either run over or thrown from his or her vehicle. That collision could cause severe injuries or death.

In this case reported in the news, a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries because of that very action. According to the story, the motorcyclist was headed east on Indian Head Road at around 5:30 p.m., when a minivan turned left onto Oak Ridge Parkway. The motorcyclist was unable to stop and collided with the van.

After the crash, the motorcyclist had to be rushed to the hospital via helicopter. No further information on his health was released to the news, and police haven't said if they'll be pursuing charges.

What may be slightly worrisome is that this was not the first crash like this. It's the second serious motorcycle accident in Toms River in just three days. In a previous accident, a 26-year-old man was killed after he suffered accidents in the area.

Collisions like these can be avoided in most cases with better attention being paid to the road and other motorists. If you've suffered injuries, you should know you have the right to seek compensation, just as these victims or their families may.
