Pedestrian deaths are on the rise; you have a right to be heard

Pedestrian injuries may seem like they happen too often in your area, and if you feel like there has been an uptick, you're right. Pedestrian accidents are becoming more common, and that's a growing concern.

A total of 169 pedestrian deaths occurred in New Jersey in 2014; the incidents happened so commonly that there was a death reported once every other day of the year. Many of the victims were crossing streets or in intersections when the accidents took place.

Although it's becoming more common to see pedestrian deaths in the news, that doesn't mean it should be commonplace. There are some agencies beginning to work to identify reasons for these accidents, so they can take action to reduce them in the future.

How can these incidents be addressed? What can be done to reduce the number of deaths taking place?

The New Jersey State Police Traffic Officers Association patrolman interviewed in the news stated that while recording deaths is important, knowing the causes and factors leading to deaths and injuries is necessary to reduce risk in the future. With more information, the police would be able to recognize dangerous behaviors and patterns that influence pedestrian accidents.

Overall, the good news has been that traffic-related deaths are down in the state, but pedestrian deaths are up. The population density of the state may be to blame, thanks to having around 9 million people in just 7,800 square miles.

If you've been hit or know someone who has, it's important to report your injuries for this data and so you can file a claim for compensation. Our website has more information.
