Alcohol a factor in recent fatal car accident

It is common knowledge that driving and alcohol don't mix. Very stringent laws exist in the state of New Jersey and across the country to help alleviate the problem of drunk driving. Despite these laws, there are drivers that choose to willingly break the law and operate a vehicle while intoxicated. Those that get behind the wheel while intoxicated not only endanger themselves, but they endanger the lives of all those around them. When alcohol is involved, the odds for a car accident increase dramatically.

A recent accident in Monroe proved to be fatal and, according to reports, alcohol was a factor in the crash. The crash occurred when a driver that was traveling north attempted to make a left turn and pulled the car into the path of a southbound SUV. Police say the driver of the SUV attempted to avoid colliding with the car but was unable to do so.

Multiple injuries resulted from the collision. The driver of the car and the occupants of the SUV were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. Reports say a passenger of the car was seriously injured and, unfortunately, died the next morning in the hospital. Police arrested the driver of the car and charged him with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, two counts of assault by auto and death by auto.

Nothing good comes from getting behind the wheel while intoxicated. Police forces in New Jersey and across the country are protecting motorists and cracking down on drunk driving. Family members of those killed in a car accident may have grounds to pursue legal actions. Damages awarded from a successful lawsuit could provide financial relief for end-of-life expenses to help the surviving family cope with the loss of a loved one.
