Officer suffers injuries in car accident with drunk driver

Driving while under the influence of alcohol is not only illegal, but very dangerous and reckless. Very strict laws against drunk driving exist in New Jersey and across the country, and rightfully so. Despite these laws, recent statistics say that 28 people die in alcohol related crashes every day in America, and one in every three people will be involved in a car accident with an intoxicated driver in their lifetime.

An accident in Franklinville resulted in injuries to an officer and multiple charges for an alleged drunk driver. According to reports, a Sewell woman was traveling along Route 557 in Franklinville and ran a stop sign while attempting to make a left turn. She then collided with a police car. The officer that was driving the patrol car received life-threatening injuries in the crash.

The officer's injuries included fractures of his spine and forearm. Police reports say that the woman that collided with the officer had a blood alcohol level that was twice the legal limit at the time of the crash. She also had two children in the car. The woman was charged and recently pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and third and fourth-degree assault by auto. She faces up 10 years in prison.

Those that choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated not only put their lives in danger, but they also endanger the lives of every one around them. Anyone in New Jersey that has suffered injuries or lost a loved one in a car accident with an impaired driver could benefit by seeking the services of a knowledgeable attorney. A successful lawsuit could result in financial relief to help with any accumulated damages.
