New Jersey hosts a number of scenic roadways that are perfect for motorcyclists to enjoy. Unfortunately, motorcyclists are subjected to different kinds of dangers than other motorists. Motorcycles are smaller than the majority of vehicles on the road, making them harder for other drivers to see. Since motorcyclists are totally exposed, accidents involving motorcycles are more likely to be fatal. A recent motorcycle accident in Elizabeth left a motorcyclist dead and a driver facing serious charges.
The accident happened during the night-time hours on well-traveled street. Reports say a motorcycle was struck by a Jeep Wrangler. The violent collision caused serious injuries to the motorcyclist.
Authorities say the motorcyclist was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Tragically, the motorcyclist died at the hospital from his injuries. The driver of a Jeep Wrangler was an off-duty police officer that apparently has a history of traffic violations. The driver was charged with strict liability vehicular homicide in the third degree for striking and killing the motorcyclist. He could be facing a lengthy prison sentence if he is convicted in criminal court.
These type of accidents are increasing across the country as roadways become more crowded and motorcycles grow in popularity. Motorcycles can definitely be fun to ride, but they can also be dangerous. Those in New Jersey who have lost a loved one in a motorcycle accident may have the option to take legal action. A successful lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation that could ease the pain and suffering involved with the death of a loved one.
