Fatal car accident proves alcohol and driving don't mix

Getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle is becoming more and more dangerous as roads across the state of New Jersey are more crowded than ever before. Drivers these days face constant distractions, so taking just a short drive can have the potential to result in a car accident. Many of these accidents are fender-benders and minor inconveniences. However, some accidents can result in serious injuries and even death, especially when alcohol is involved. A recent accident in Highland Park left one person dead and an alleged drunk driver facing serious charges.

According to authorities, the driver of a Honda CRV containing three passengers crashed into a Subaru Legacy along Route 27 in Highland Park. Accident reports say that the driver of the CRV hit a bridge abutment and ricocheted into the Subaru that was stopped at a red light. The driver of the Subaru was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Tragically, a female passenger in the CRV was pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports. Authorities said two passengers in the CRV were also injured and transported to a local hospital. Alcohol was a factor in the accident. Police said the driver of the CRV, a 20-year-old Edison woman, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

It is common knowledge that alcohol and driving don't mix. When intoxicated drivers get behind the wheel, the odds of a tragic car accident occurring dramatically increase. Families in New Jersey that have been affected by this type of accident could greatly benefit by consulting a knowledgeable attorney. A successfully litigated lawsuit could provide victims and families with much-needed financial relief.
