It may not be easy to get back to work after a work accident

When a New Jersey worker suffers an injury in an accident at his or her workplace, it can lead to physical pain and financial complications. Through workers' compensation benefits, it is possible to secure certain support that can allow you to have time away from work and seek a full recovery. Some workers, however, may find that the nature of their injuries is significant, and they may not be able to return to the same job they had before.

If you are suffering from an injury that is disabling, and you are unsure how long you will be unable to work, you may find it beneficial to learn more about disability benefits through workers' compensation. Whether you are suffering from temporary injuries or complications that will affect you for the rest of your life, you have no time to lose in understanding more about your rights and options.

What if you cannot go back to work?

Work injuries are all different, and it may take you a long time to recover. You may even be unsure that you will ever recover to the point that you can reenter the workforce or return to the same job that you had before your accident. You could be eligible for disability benefits that include the following:

  • Permanent disability: If you cannot return to work due to a permanently disabling condition that resulted from your workplace accident, you could be eligible for a lump sum payment to compensate you for your loss of ability. The amount depends on your injuries, your former occupation and other factors.
  • Temporary disability: If you need time away from work to recover from a temporary disability, these benefits could allow you to do that. This would provide you with compensation for a portion of the wages you are missing.

What you need after an accident depends on your unique situation. Many injured workers find it beneficial to seek an explanation of their rights before they file their claims.

Additional support could be available

If you cannot return to the same job you had before your accident, you could receive vocational rehabilitation benefits as well. This could help you prepare your resume, prepare for job interviews and search for employment.

Whether you need disability benefits or you need help getting back to work after a serious accident at your place of employment, you have the right to know your options and seek help as you pursue the benefits you need.
